Mountain Spirit – Open Call for Volunteers in National park Fruska gora, Serbia
Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia invites volunteers, aged 18-30, to participate in a short-term EVS (European Volunteer Service) in National Park Fruska gora. The camp will take place this summer from 1 July – 15 July 2018 in a village Mala Remeta, situated on the southern slopes of the Fuska Gora mountain.
The surface under steppe vegetation, the last remaining natural habitats for sousliks the main pray of the Eastern Imperial Eagle, is reduced and limited to the southern mountain slopes due to the negative human impact. The aim of the camp is to revitalize abandoned pastures and therefore to help to sustain suitable habitats for the sousliks and eagles and many other endangered species.
The volunteers will be removing shrub vegetation with the support of the locals. Additionally, we will get to the areas where uncontrolled waste disposal sites are beginning to form and clear out that trash. Volunteers will be living in a small village community with international volunteers and locals and will have an opportunity to learn about protected areas, conservation measures and sustainable and rural tourism.
Short-term EVS in National Park Fruska Gora is organized within the „Mountain spirit“ project which involves several EVS short and long-term volunteer exchanges in Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo* and Bulgaria. It aims at combining efforts of international volunteers and local people from mountainous/rural areas for nature conservation activities in protected areas or species. The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
Currently, unfilled places are for volunteers from Croatia and Serbia. We need enthusiastic, hard-working people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and to do something meaningful for nature. Birdwatchers and outdoor people would love the surroundings. All interested can apply by sending CV and motivation letter to bpsss.evs@gmail.com. Deadline for the application is May 27th,2018.
